Malwarebytes automatic update and scan for free version

Malwarebytes is a site dedicated to fighting malware. Malwarebytes has developed a variety of tools that can identify and remove malicious software from your computer. When your computer becomes infected, Malwarebytes can provide the needed assistance to remove the infection and restore the machine back to optimum performance.

The free edition is for home user or for personal use.

Here are handling for Windows XP:
  • Click on Start Menu> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Scheduled Tasks.
  • Choose Create a scheduled task.
  • Click Next, then Browse ...
  • Select the file C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • Choose a name for the scheduled task and then choose from these choices:
  • Everyday
  • Every week
  • Every month
  • Once
  • When my computer starts
  • At the opening of a session
  • Click on Next and other choices available (Your choice).
  • Click Next. If you do not want a password, there is a small modification in the register or you'll get an error. Run this file to make the change. To restore the default, you must run this file.
  • Click Done.
  • Right-click on this new task and then Properties. In Run, add /update
    "C:\ProgramFiles\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe" /update

You can do the same for automatic scanning: The command is / quickscanterminate for a quick scan or/ fullscanterminate for a complete scan.

Here's a way around this that I use on my XP desktop. Create separate scheduled tasks for Update and for Scan.
  1. "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe" /update
  2. "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe" /fullscanterminate
  3. "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe" /quickscanterminate
Update is scheduled daily
fullscan is scheduled every monday
quickscan is scheduled daily 30 minutes after the schedule update

    1. Hello Katanski,

Try running the program with administrative privileges. I have not encountered this in our network.
